Guided free-range hunts on 3,600 deeded acres
This hunt takes place on a private ranch in the Cimarron Mountains just east of Montrose, Colorado. Hunter success is high with about 80% of hunters tagging a bull over the past 12 years. Most bulls are 5x5s and 6x6s scoring 320 B&C points or less. The rancher said he sees two or three bulls in the 340s and 350s a year.
The terrain is hilly and mostly brushy. More than half the ground is covered with oakbrush. Sagebrush covers 20-30% of the land, and the balance is forested by aspens and spruces. The hunt is conducted by the landowner. He provides one guide per pair of hunters.
