Hunter success
Licenses
Hunter success probably will depend on trophy standards. Most hunters get a shot at a 22 to 25-inch buck, but there are some bigger animals in the 26 to 30-inch category. All seven rifle hunters in 2009 had chances and five of them killed bucks. Technically, you must draw a license, but the drawing odds for non-residents have been 100%.  You must apply by the end of January online, or unsold non-resident tags go to residents. Deer tags are about $325, including small game license
Lodging Notes
Wall tents are provided. Meals are not included.
Seasons Travel
Should be similar to 2009 (Rifle: Oct. 17-25
Muzzleloader: Sept. 23-Oct. 1.
Archery: Aug. 15-Sept. 11)
Pickup at the Salt Lake City and rent a truck for use on the ranch.

This hunt takes place on a northern Utah ranch where the outfitter said he sees a concentration of bucks every year during the late September blackpowder hunt. In 2008 and 2009 he scouted the ranch several times in September and saw 17 to 28 bucks a day.

"I think the opportunity during the blackpowder season for a 170ish buck is pretty doable during September," the outfitter said, "if you can shoot 150 yards. The biggest bucks I've seen would score 190 or more."

The base price is $2,500 a person with two hunters per guide for five days. Tent lodging is provided. Meals are not included but can be provided at an extra fee of $500 a person. Airport shuttle service to Salt Lake International is an additional $200 per person, or you can rent a care and drive three hours to the ranch.

The outfitter has guided only two blackpowder hunters so far, and both killed bucks despite their being in poor physical condition.

"Hunters in good shape should be able to see lots of bucks and tag out on a 170 class buck or more," the outfitter said, "with an opportunity to kill a giant." He pointed out that an outfitter who hunts bordering land has produced two bucks that scored more than 200 B&C.
