This hunt takes place on a 37,000-acre private ranch south and east of Albuquerque. The outfitter mainly offers rifle hunts, but he also offers a rut bow hunt Jan. 1-5.

Meals and trailer accommodations are included. We've had nothing but good reports from customers who have used this outfitter.

"This property has been tightly controlled for many years, so we see lots of bucks," the outfitter said. "And the bucks get old and big. We've killed bucks over 30 inches but not every year. Most of the bucks we kill have outside spreads of 22 to 26 inches, and the bigger bucks are 27 to 28 inches wide, and then there's the rare buck with an even wider spread."

"Hunter success is high even during the archery hunt because the deer drop their guard during the winter rut. We limit the number of hunters on the ranch. Most years we have taken 16 hunters, and that's all the seasons combined. Most of our hunters come back year after year. The price is the same on all our hunts because our costs are the same, and the bowhunters do just as well as the rifle hunters, but bowhunters can lengthen their hunts for $400 a day."
