This outfitter has had outstanding success over the past 16 years on above-average dall rams, tremendous moose and quality mountain caribou. Hunts are conducted in his 7,000 square mile area. There is no grizzly season in this part of the NWT, although there are have lots of bears and are lobbying to get a season reinstated. He offers the hunter the option of horseback or backpack sheep hunts. Very few outfitters use horses due to the remoteness and cost associated with getting the animals into their areas. Rams taken in the last few years have averaged 10 1/2 years in age with a 37 1/2" curl. Backpack hunts start July 15 and run to August 26, all guided 1x1 for 10 days. Horseback hunts run from July 15 to September 3 and sometimes last for 11 or 12 days, guided 1x1. Hunters fly from Edmonton to Norman Wells, NWT and charter to base camp, approximately 45 minute flight priced at $590 Canadian in 2000, where they are met by the outfitter. He and his wife stay in this camp the entire hunting season and coordinate travel for the hunters to different camps, usually by Supercub, and the hunters return to this main camp after the hunt with their trophies. Capes, horns and meat are then sent home with the client. Dall sheep backpack hunts are typically run from spike tents. Horseback hunts for sheep and moose are mostly run out of cabins and some wall tents. Caribou can be spike tents or wall tents. Larger horseback hunts, especially on the moose hunts, are made up of 2 hunters, guides, cook, wrangler and about 16 horses. Smaller camps consist of 1 hunter, guide, cook/wrangler and about 10 horses. Most horseback hunts run 1 or 2 days longer than backpack due to travel time involved and sometimes they have to ride to an area and then set up the wall tents.

The outfitter offers 3 or 4 moose horseback hunts per year and 3 or 4 river raft hunts. Both are extremely successful on top quality bulls. Most years bulls taken have averaged in the low 60's. Typically on the horseback hunts hunters are flown into his traditional moose area to hunt a very large valley above timberline. This hunt takes place from September 4 to 15, during prime rut. Many moose are usually glassed before a decision is made. Camp consists of wall tents and this hunt is usually booked ahead. The river raft hunt consists of a guide and hunter rafting approximately 50 miles. He offers two dates, Sept 3-10 and 12-19. Many species of game are seen on this hunt and the first raft trip a sheep can be combined in the hunt. Raft hunts have been as successful as the horseback hunts and mountain caribou can be taken on a kill fee. The river is fairly calm and the trip can be made in 8 days in the 14-foot four-man rafts. September 19 is the last day the outfitter is in his area, due to the on coming winter. You can take mountain caribou on a harvest fee basis, or you can book a straight caribou hunt. Hunters are flown out of base camp with their guide and spike camp.
