This outfitter has leases totaling 20,000 acres in Butler County, Kansas, famed for producing record-class bucks. A bowhunter himself, the outfitter has taken several Pope and Young quality bucks. "We take a lot of bucks that score 150 to 170 and a few bigger than that," he said. "Last year (2011) we got 21 bucks for 24 hunters, and the average size was 158 Boone and Crockett inches. The biggest was a 187 we got with a bow, and we also got a 174 and a 176. Our biggest eight-point scored 162." The outfitter conducts hunting trips during the archery, muzzleloader and rifle seasons. He accommodates his guests in a nice cabin that sleeps six. A six-day archery hunt is $4,000, and a five-day rifle hunt is $5,000. Meals and lodging are included. So far there have been tags left over after the drawing every year, so you can buy a tag over the counter in June. |
